KVK Malangpora organises awareness-cum-plantation drive under Mission LiFE

AWANTIPORA: In continuation to the series of activities under Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for environment), Krishi Vigyan Kendra/Extension Training Centra Malangpora area organized a day-long awareness cum plantation drive programme at Government High School Padgampora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.
The programme was aligned with the theme of World Environment Day 2024 “Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience” and was attended by a large number of students, teachers and scientists from Kendra, officials told Kashmir Reader.
The aim of the campaign was to make the participants aware of Mission LiFE and synchronize young minds with LiFE themes, and disseminate knowledge on environmentally friendly habits.
Prof. & Head, KVK/ETC Malangpora, Dr. Javaid Ahmad Mugloo, while speaking on the occasion stressed upon the importance of conserving precious natural resources and the need to live in harmony with nature. He also spoke on how efficient waste management is a key to keeping our surroundings clean, which in turn leads to a lot of social, economic and environmental benefits. The students were sensitized about Reducing, Reusing and Recycling concepts to reduce the heavy burden of waste on our environment and health.
The event holistically sensitised the students in a comprehensive manner about their environment, habitat, and the need to live in harmony with nature. As a part of this event, participants took part in a LiFE pledge against polluting the environment. The students were sensitized about the importance of vermicomposting, and medicinal plant cultivation for a sustainable food system, and healthy lifestyles.
The event also witnessed a plantation drive, where several saplings of Deodar, medicinal plants, etc were planted in the school premises to enhance the green cover of the campus and foster a more eco-friendly atmosphere.
