MC Hajin sanitation workers protest lack of protective equipment

BANDIPORA: Sanitation workers of MC Hajin held a silent protest on Saturday at the premises of the Municipal Committee (MC) Hajin over the shortage of protective equipment.
Abdul Salam, a sweeper, informed Kashmir Reader that they lack uniforms, gloves, shoes, and even essential tools like a Jadoo for conducting cleanliness drives in the town.
He said they are working without any protective gear, exposing themselves to a greater risk of infection. He also said they would not conduct the cleanliness drive in the town from Monday if the department didn’t provide them with protective equipment.
Abdul Salam emphasized the essential nature of their work for maintaining community hygiene and health, expressing the challenges they face without proper equipment.
He added that the approval for necessary equipment remains pending at the office of the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), who acts as the administrative head of MC Hajin.
While appreciating the support of Executive Officer Hajin, sanitation workers urged the DC Bandipora, to intervene and prioritize their genuine concerns. They vowed to persist with their peaceful demonstration until their demands were addressed.
