Crackdown on illegal mining: 3 LNTs among 10 vehicles seized in Pampore, Awantipora

Pampore: In a relentless effort to combat illegal mining activities, the Geology and Mining department in Pulwama took decisive action by seizing 10 vehicles used for unauthorized mining and transportation of raw materials in the Pampore and Awantipora areas of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The operation, conducted within the past 24 hours, was spearheaded by a team led by District Mineral Officer (DMO) Pulwama, Er Mohammad Manzoor. The crackdown specifically targeted regions such as Wuyan and Mundakpal area of Pampore and Awantipora, resulting in the seizure of seven dumpers, three LNT machines, and one tractor, all involved in illegal mining and illicit transportation of raw materials.
DMO Pulwama, Er Mohammad Manzoor, emphasized the department’s unwavering commitment to eradicating illegal mining practices in the district. He highlighted the team’s vigilance, conducting rigorous inspections to curb the unauthorized extraction and transportation of raw materials. All instances of illegal mining will be addressed in accordance with regulations, with stringent actions taken against violators through an expedited fast-track system.
The seized vehicles have been placed under the custody of the Awantipora police station and the Sub Office of Geology Mining in Khrew. DMO Pulwama stressed that his staff remains on high alert to monitor and prevent illegal mining, which depletes public resources.
The crackdown against illegal mining and transportation is ongoing in various areas of the Pulwama district, underscoring the authorities’ commitment to preserving the region’s natural resources and ensuring adherence to legal procedures in mining activities.
