KU organises career counselling prog at GDC Tangdhar

Receives enthusiastic response from students, faculty

Kupwara: To enlighten colleges across the valley about the ever-evolving importance of careers in the modern technological landscape, Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) and Students Counselling and Guidance Cell (SCGC), Public Relations Centre (PRC), Kashmir University (KU) organised a career counselling programme titled ‘Choosing a Career’ at Government Degree College (GDC), Tangdhar.
This initiative is part of the varsity’s outreach programme aimed at guiding students in their educational and professional journeys and is designed to bring career guidance and counselling closer to the students, bridging the gap between academia and the professional world.
The programme is set to encompass various colleges across the valley, reaching out to students from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines. Through interactive sessions, workshops and expert guidance, it aims to empower students with the information and insights they need to make well-informed career choices.
In her message, the Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof Nilofer Khan emphasized the profound significance of these outreach programmes that will serve as beacons of guidance, illuminating the path to success for the talented youth.
“The future lies in the hands of our students, and it is our responsibility to equip them with the right tools and knowledge to make informed decisions about their careers.”
Emphasising the crucial role of educators in adapting to the changing pedagogical perspectives, Producer at EMRC, Ajaz-ul-Haque discussed the evolving career demands in light of the information communication technology (ICT).
Producer at EMRC, Dr Tariq Abdullah elaborated the significance of ICT practices in higher education and the various stages of developing the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) while underlining the pivotal role that EMRC, KU plays in creating educational content across diverse subjects and formats.
Student Counsellor at PRC, Mir Zubair Rashid provided a comprehensive overview of career opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir and beyond while sharing information about reputed institutions offering employment opportunities tailored to the preferences, interests and academic backgrounds of aspirants.
Principal, GDC, Tangdar, Prof Haroon Rashid expressed his appreciation for the Kashmir University’s initiative in conducting the career awareness programme for his students.
A captivating documentary produced by EMRC, KU and titled ‘Karnah – Living on the Edge,’ was screened during the event. Highlighting the local area, this documentary received appreciation from both students and faculty members for its insightful portrayal.
Acknowledging the significance of sensitising students about the latest trends in education and technology, Assistant Professor at GDC Tangdar, Dr Pervez Ahmad, who delivered the formal vote of thanks, expressed gratitude to the KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan for selecting GDC, Tangdhar for this crucial initiative.
The event concluded with the screening of a documentary on the National Educational Policy – 2020, produced by Dr Tariq Abdullah from EMRC.
The programme at GDC Tangdhar marks a significant step towards empowering students with the knowledge and insights they need to make informed career choices in the rapidly changing job market.
