Training on fishing technologies concludes at SKUAST-K

Srinagar: The seven-day training programme on ‘Fishing Technologies for Sustainable Fisheries’ concluded today at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Rangil campus.
The training was organised by the SKUAST-K’s Faculty of Fisheries under ICAR-World Bank-funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) for the institutional development of the university.
Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who was the chief guest at the concluding function, stressed exposing the students to the newer realities of the world science and technology to inculcate creativity and innovation among them. He said that holistic efforts need to be made in order to unlearn, learn and relearn to make oneself relevant in present times, when the whole world is dependent on new technologies like artificial intelligence and data sciences.
Former Principal Scientist CIFE, Mumbai, Dr Lata Shenoy, who was the expert trainer at the workshop, gave insights into different technologies being used in the fisheries sector for meeting future requirements in a sustainable manner.
Besides Shenoy, the training witnessed expert lectures from eminent person in the field from international and national level institutes like Dr Krishna S Salin from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, Dr Parveen Putra, Former ADG Fisheries, ICAR, Dr Debajit Sarma, CIFE Mumbai, Dr Sajan Ali CIFRE West Bengal, Dr Ranji Kumar Raut, NIT Srinagar, Dr Sandhya KN CIFT Cochin, Jatinder Soni Garver MHA GoI, and Muffera Khooru, Entrepreneur.
Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, Prof Farooz A Bhat delivered the welcome address and Head, Division of Fishery Engineering Prof Gohar Bilal Wani, who was the course director of the training, gave a brief overview at the valedictory function. Director Research, Prof Tariq H Masoodi, Director Planning, Prof Haroon H Naik, HoDs, faculty members and all the participants who had joined in offline and online mode.
In the end, the vice chancellor distributed certificates among the participants. Course Coordinator, Dr Shabir Ahmad Dar, presented the vote of thanks.
