Awantipora: To facilitate the implementation of National Education Policy 2020 at Polytechnic Colleges of the union territory, a high-level meeting of the principals and officials representing different technical education institutions was held at IUST today under the chairmanship of Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo (Vice Chancellor IUST).
The meeting was attended by Director J&K Department of Skill Development, Registrar J&K Board of Technical Education, Joint Director (ITI, Jammu & Kashmir), and an official from NITTR, Chandigarh. Besides, principals from Government Polytechnic Colleges of Ganderbal, Shopian, Jammu, and Poonch, and a representative from BGSB University also attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Prof. A. H. Moon. Dean Research IUST.
The main purpose of the meeting was to ensure efficient implementation of the national education policy at the technical education institutions by framing the prescribed curriculum for polytechnic colleges and to discuss the modalities for the transfer of academic credits from Polytechnics to Engineering colleges in the union territory.
Highlighting the role of IUST in developing excellent academia-industry coordination, Prof. Romshoo said, “Through its different centers like CIED and Outreach, the varsity is well connected with different sections of the society. Already scores of MoUs have been signed with the industry representatives”. He further said, “IUST is developing the best human resource and physical infrastructure at the campus and will be pleased to share these resources with the technical education institution”.
Emphasizing the need to develop effective linkages between educational institutions and industry, Prof. Moon said, “Polytechnic Colleges should compulsorily introduce internships in their curriculum so that the students get on-job training while in the study. The internship will help to transfer relevant skills to the students.
So, institutions need to identify potential craftsmen and artisans where the students’ internship can be facilitated”.
The committee also discussed Curriculum development, Diploma with the degree program, Academic Bank of Credit (ABC), maintenance of digital repository of credits, Multiple entry and exit options, concept of dual degrees with D. Voc, etc.
