IUST Screens Mahatma: Life of Gandhi

Awantipora: In continuation of the on-going celebrations for Mahatma Gandhi’s 153rd birthday; office of Dean of Students, Islamic University of Science and Technology headed by Dr. Anisa Jan, organised a documentary screening of ‘Mahatma: Life of Gandhi.’ Produced by Gandhi Memorial Trust in collaboration with National Films Archive of India; the documentary traces the journey of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi into Mahatma Gandhi.
Dr. Mujeeb Liyakat I/C Head of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, IUST opened the screening with his introductory remarks and shed light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi, his great achievements and sacrifices.
The documentary traces the childhood of Mahatma Gandhi to his youth, where we get to know the different aspects of his life, his inspirations and interests, which shaped his understanding of the world. The documentary covered all the key moments of life of Gandhi from his deep inclination towards developing strong understanding of all the principal religions of the world, to people like Dadabhai Naroji and Pheroz Shah Mehta among others who deeply influenced his political understandings and his strong belief in self-help and simplicity.
Shaiqa Nasreen Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communications, IUST concluded the screening by presenting the vote of thanks. Nasreen, thanked the students and scholars for attending the screening and urged them to inculcate and absorb the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
