KVK Ganderbal organized Nutri Campaign, PoshanAbhiyan, Plantation drive at Shuhama Campus

Srinagar: KVK Ganderbal organized a National Campaign on Poshan Abhiyan and Tree Plantation. The programme was conducted in collaboration with IFFCO to celebrate the birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. The programme was virtually presided over by Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon’ble Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Union Minister emphasized on the importance of sowing vegetable seeds in nutri-gardens for maintaining the health of rural population and impressed upon the farmers to use Nano fertilizers for higher returns.
At KVK, the programme was initiated under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Ganie and mentorship of Worthy Director Extension Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi. All the Scientists of KVK Ganderbal participated in the event organized under the guidance of Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal. The participants were made aware about the essence of PoshanAbhiyan, the flagship initiative of Government of India. Dr. Rafiya Munshi gave a detailed account about bio-fortified varieties, nutri-cereals, nutri-gardens and their role in human health. The participants were also made aware about the present scenario of the population in terms of health indices and role of bio-fortified varieties and nutri-gardens in addressing various deficiencies of population in general and women and children in particular.
An Interaction Session with farmers and experts was also organized wherein importance of nutri-cereals and their role in human health along with plantation of agroforestry trees and their effect on environment was highlighted. It was emphasized that the participants develop nutri-gardens at their respective places so that nutri-cereals, vegetables, bio-fortified varieties having neutraceutical and health promoting properties are made available, which can improve the health status of rural population of the District. Vegetable seed packets and Saplings of Agro-forestry plants were also made available to the participants under Green India Campaign and a plantation drive was also carried out at KVK Campus. The event ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Rafiya Munshi.
The participants expressed gratitude for the conduct of such an informative programme by the KVK and desired to have similar events across the District.
