Govt building in Beerwah tehsil not used for 21 years

BUDGAM: Patwari Khana, the one “government building” in Gundipora Village in Beerwah Tehsil, has served no purpose since its construction 21 years ago, as the government did not utilise it and the abandoned building fell into disrepair over the years.
Bashir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Gundipora Village, told Kashmir Reader that the building is commonly known as Patwari Khana as it was constructed for revenue officials to maintain records of agricultural and residential land.
“But even after its construction was fully competed, this building was not used by the government. Its condition worsened by the day and now the building has become mostly damaged,” Wani said.
Wani said that the people in Gundipora and surrounding villages have not received any benefit through this facility which was provided by the government 21 years ago.
Fayaz Ahmad, another local resident, said that though the building was constructed as a Patwari Khana, people still had to go to Beerwah tehsil for work related to land documents.
“After it was constructed, this building looked like a proper office. Now this building looks like a cowshed. Its doors, windows have all got damaged,” he said.
Ahmad said the government should take necessary steps to renovate the building so that people can get their work done without having to travel to the Beerwah revenue office.
Syed Ahmad Kataria, Sub District Magistrate Beerwah, told Kashmir Reader that he will look into the matter and necessary steps will be taken for the renovation of this government building.
