Illegal land filling prevented by revenue officials in Pampore

PAMPORE: Acting Tough against Land Mafia and Illegal earth filling, Tehsildar Pampore Ishtiyaq Mohi-ud-Din gets the illegally filled soil lifted back from Nambal land at Bagandar Meej in Pampore areas. Action under land Revenue Act was also initiated against violators.
This is the 11th time in past five months that illegal earth filling has been lifted back by Tehsil office Pampore and supplied to government works and legally allowed places, officials told Kashmir Reader.
Agriculture officials, concerned Patwaries and others also accompanied Tehsildar Pampore during the drive against the mafia.
The Tehsildar Pampore Ishtiyaq Mohi-ud-Din warned the land mafia to stay away from illegal excavation of soil.
“When people approach us through a legal way for lifting or dumping of soil we give cooperate with them fully but still some people resort unlawful soil excavation/dumping during night,” Tehsildar Pampore Ishtiyaq Mohi-ud-Din told Kashmir Reader, adding that filling of swamps( Nambal) creates waterlogging in cultivable land.
“This creates a chain spoiling agricultural land,” he said, adding that they are making a proposal before the government for dewatering the swampy land to make it cultivable.
“If after dewatering the land doesn’t support cultivation, we can give permission to people for filling it with soil provided the environment is not degraded,” he said.
He said that there will be a legal action by way of FIR or land revenue act or minor minerals act.
“In Konbal village a huge fine has been imposed on wrongdoers and they have to deposit the amount in the government treasury,” he said.
He said that they are lifting the soil for the eleventh time.
“The soil is being used for various government works, we are short of staff and can’t keep a vigil on illegal excavators during night but we will act though,” he said.
