Seven days training programme on scientific Beekeeping begins at FoA, Wadura

SRINAGAR: Seven days training programme on “Scientific Beekeeping” under Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) in association with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) commenced on 20th December, 2021 at Division of Entomology, FoA, Wadura Sopore, SKUAST-K. In the training programme, unemployed youth from district Kupwara have been registered. The training is intended at development of skill on different aspects of beekeeping. The trainees shall be given practical knowledge about scientific rearing techniques of honey bees, their seasonal management, queen rearing techniques management of their pests and diseases, swarm management and principles and practices of migration and harvesting/processing and marketing of honey, opportunities, threats and challenges in beekeeping. The trainees shall be further given knowhow about the ecosystem services of bees and their role in pollination particularly of horticultural crops.
The training programme was inaugurated by Professor Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir who was the chief Guest of the occasion. He acknowledged that the youth have sufficient potential and they should utilize this potential for self-sustenance. He further promised them to impart more advanced trainings on beekeeping in future. Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. A. H. Hakeem who was the guest of honour, on the occasion acknowledged that the youth can involve themselves in setting up beekeeping on cluster basis.
He assured trainees to provide all the technical support from FoA, Wadura. Professor Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Associate Director Extension, SKUAST Kashmir and heads of Divisions/Professors were also present to grace the occasion. The guests and trainees were formally welcome by Dr. Munazah Yaqoob, Associate professor, Division of Entomology. Formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. M. A. Mantoo, Head Division of Entomology.
