DG Horticulture dispatches fruit tree consignment to Tangdar farmers

Srinagar: Director General Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (JKAS), flagged off the first consignment of 17160 number of different fruit plants like Lemon, Orange, Hazelnut, Plum, Peach, Apricot and walnut for border and tribal areas of Tangdhar and Teetwal of district Kupwara. On the occasion he was accompanied by Chief Horticulture Officer Kupwara.
Pertinent to mention that the DG Horticulture had a few months back visited the area and demand for these fruit plants was put forth by the DDC members and the locals which has been fulfilled by the department. Speaking on the occasion DG Horticulture assured that the department is committed to provide all type of help to the to the far-flung areas of the valley. He further added that the campaign to reach out to the farmers of far-flung and tribal areas will continue with the same momentum. He further added that cultivation of these fruits will increase the production and will meet the local as well as the demand of the whole valley and will also provide a livelihood for farmers, and will help in protecting the environment.
Furthermore, DG Horticulture is expected to visit the area in next week and will personally monitor the distribution of the fruit plants among the farmers.
