Police arrest 2 timber smugglers in Sopore, illicit timber seized

Srinagar: Police in Sopore have arrested two timber smugglers and seized illicit timber at Fidarpora Rafiabad.
Acting on specific input about timber smuggling at village Fidarpora Rafiabad, a police party of Police Station Dangiwacha alongwith officials of Forest Department under the supervision of SDPO Rafiabad raided the particular spot and seized illicit timber from the possession of Abdul Qayoom Mir son of Abdul Razak Mir and Abdul Ahad Hajam son of Muhammad Rajab Hajam both residents of Fidarpora Rafiabad. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 189/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha and further investigation set into motion.
The drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of green gold. Our consistent actions against anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making every effort to keep our society free of crime. Police has resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal activities.
