Many people may think this topic isn’t even worth considering and maybe somehow they’re right. What’s so great about being a girl? Absolutely nothing. Just a pair of xx chromosomes. Well, how about imagining a world in which you are born but to which you don’t belong, a world where you are living but you don’t really exist.
Since I am a girl I don’t need to imagine it, as I am already living in such a world. From the beginning we are not welcomed. I know some girls may think it’s not true but let’s be honest, how many of us feel proud to be girls? From birth till now how many times have we felt sorry for ourselves? Ever since we were born we have been told that this is not your home, you have to go to some other place and make it your home. And after marriage we are told that we came from a different home. Then where’s this place called “home”? We have to live our whole life in search of this home.
When making decisions we are kept aside, being told that we are not intelligent enough. And when we make mistakes we are judged harshly.
“Don’t sleep for too long, you are a girl after all”: that’s our morning anthem. “Don’t talk loudly or laugh loudly. You have to be careful about your appearance; remember you are a girl.” Really, how does it feel to be controlled like remote-controlled robots? Don’t go this way, go that way. Do we even have our own life, do we really exist for our own sake? Are we really meant to take care of others without being taken care of?
I don’t know why am I even asking this, and who am I asking this to, and what am I asking for.
I don’t want equality. I believe no two people in this world are same, so we can’t treat two different people as equal. I believe people should be treated according to their ability. So, I am not equal to anyone; I just want freedom to be whatever it is that I am. I want to explore the part that I can. I know my limits but I still want to be limitless. It’s not right to question someone’s existence. Let’s build a world where it isn’t hard to live as a girl. Let everyone contribute equally to this world, let everyone play their part. I know we may not be the strongest but we still are worth something. Let us find that something and let us work on it every day. Let us grow everyday and let’s glow every day.
