World mental health day observed in GDC Pampore

ADC Awantipora highlighted the stigma pertaining mental health issues

PAMPORE: Department of Psychology Counseling Cell, Government Degree College Pampore, in collaboration with Child Guidance and Well-being Centre (CGWC) IMHANS-K organized a World Mental Health Day 2021 on Monday at GDC Pampore.
Earlier, Principal GDC Pampore Professor Dr Seema Naz welcomed chief guest of the seminar Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora Zaffar Husson Shawl, guest of honour Dr. Reyaz Ahmad Medical officer, special guest Muzaffar Ahmad ,Clinical Psychologist (CHWC) IMHANS and other speakers.
The theme of World Mental Health Day was ”Mental Health in Unequal World.”
Principal deliberated on mental Health and services provided by the Psychological Counselling Cell, officials told Kashmir Reader.
The Chief guest Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora Zaffer Husson Shawl highlighted the stigma pertaining mental health issues and coming forward for the treatment of mental health problems.
The Technical session started with power point presentation on “Understanding Mental Health “ by Muzaffar Ahmad Clinical Psychologist (CGWC) IMHANS Muzaffar gave detailed presentation on Mental Health symptoms,causes and treatment strategies. First session was concluded by Prof. Dr Mohammad Iqbal Malik’s vote of thanks to all the esteemed guests and speakers of the seminar.
Then, Jagmeet Singh, counsellor (CGWC) IMHANS-K gave Power Point presentation on prevention of suicide and thereby emphasised on demography of suicide in India, methods, risk-factors, symptoms and prevention of suicide. Syed Mujtaba, coordinator (CHWC) IMHANS presented detailed session on “mental health in an unequal world”via PowerPoint presentation. He stressed on mental health rights and deficiency in terms of man power and infrastructure. Last presentation was given by Tawseef Rashid, psychiatric social worker (CHWC) IMHANS on psycho-social perspective to mental health. She made her session lively by active participation of students. The seminar was concluded by vote of thanks from Prof. Aaliya Bashir, HOD English department. Moderator for the seminar was Professor Shah Lateef, Convenor, Psychological Counselling Cell and rapporteur for the said event was Dr. Sujeera Rashid,HOD Psychology.
Talking to Kashmir Reader Principal GDC Pampore, Professor Dr Seema Naaz told that they celebrated 10 October as world Mental Health Day in their college.
” it very necessary to create awareness on mental health among students owing to situations created by COVID-19 and in this regard one day seminar on mental health was organised in Pampore college and Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora, Zaffar Husson Shawl was chief guest on the occasion,” she said, adding he his inaugural address deliberated on the need good mental health among students.
She also told Kashmir Reader that psychiatrists and psychologists from IMHANS held technical sessions with students on importance of mental health.
