KU’s Hindi Department organises ‘Hindi Diwas’

Srinagar: Kashmir University’s Department of Hindi on Tuesday organised a function to celebrate ‘Hindi Diwas’.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad chaired the function as chief guest, while Registrar Dr Nisar A Mir was a guest of honour on the occasion.
In his presidential address, Prof Talat said he is happy to note that students and pass-outs of the Hindi Department are doing exceptionally well in academics and research.
He said it’s always an advantage for students to learn as many languages as possible.
“It has been our priority to see that promotion and development of Hindi language and literature gets due attention and focus,” he said.
He urged the department to hold short-term certificate and diploma courses in Hindi for greater promotion of the language.
“We will provide all possible support to the department in its academic endeavours. We will also see to it that the department gets all required facilities and infrastructure,” Prof Talat said, congratulating the department for organising the Hindi Diwas.
In his special remarks, Registrar Dr Nisar A Mir said the University’s Hindi department is one of the oldest departments on the KU campus and the administration is committed to provide it with all requisite support.
Dean School of Arts, Languages and Literature Prof Aadil Amin Kak also spoke on the occasion while former Head Department of Hindi Prof Zohra Afzal delivered a special address highlighting the importance of Hindi Diwas and Hindi language and literature.
Head Department of Hindi Prof Zahida Jabeen delivered the welcome address and highlighted the achievements of the department over the years in areas of academics and research.
Prof Ruby Zutshi delivered a formal vote of thanks.
Students and scholars of the department were present on the occasion. Several literary activities including paper-reading and essay competition were organised and prizes distributed among the winners. The department’s annual journal Vitasta was also released by the Vice-Chancellor on the occasion.
