Awantipora: The residents of Awantipora town in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded demanding of Primary Health Centre (PHC) from Jawbehara to main town Awantipora.
Mohammad Lateef , Chairman Welfare committee Awantipora, told Kashmir Reader that the old Primary Health Centre building at Awantipora town was demolished during road widening by district administration.
He added that the PHC was then shifted 3 kilometers to Jawbara area which caused inconvenience to around 20 thousand people of Awantipora and adjoining areas.
“In Jawbehara, the Primary Health Centre has been accomodated in a building which has shortage of space, the x-ray and other machines have been installed in an alley,” he said, adding that they approached Waqaf board asking them to allocate a building for accommodating the PHC.
“Waqaf allocated a building for PHC and for the past month we have been waiting for the health department to shift but they didn’t due to reasons known to them,” Lateef said.
The residents also held a peaceful protest demonstration a day ago to press administration to fulfill their demand.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora, Zaffar Husson Shawl told Kashmir Reader that the demand to shift back the Primary Health Centre is genuine.
” We have taken up the matter with the concerned department and are on it, I hope the PHC will shift back within a week,” he said, adding that this is a public demand and they will take care of it.
Chief Medical Officer Pulwama, Dr Haseena also assured that the Primary Health Centre will be shifted back.
” We have written to the Director health services Kashmir. The Primary Health Centre will be shifted in a week’s time,” she told Kashmir Reader.
