Pampore: A delegation of some families from Khankahbag area Pampore in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district has appealed to authorities for relocating them to safe places because landslides pose a threat to their houses.
They told Kashmir Reader that their houses are constructed on Jhelum embankments which undergo landslides triggered by rains and floods.
They said that in the past floods and rains washed away big chunks of land from the embankments because their houses face a threat of getting washed away.
“The recent rains washed away a significant portion of the embankment and video of which became viral on social media,” Bilal Ahmad, a local resident told Kashmir Reader, adding that they feel unsafe at the place.
He added that after the video, some authorities from revenue department Pampore visited the spot.
“They informed us that we have built the houses illegally, we are poor people and have no land where we could shift,” he said.
The residents requested Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary and Tehsildar Pampore Ishtiyaq Mohi-ud-Din for identifying some land for them.
