Good rains boost generation at LJHEP Uri

BARAMULLA: Due to the incessant rains and wet weather from past month, Lower Jhelum Hydro electric power Project (LJHEP) is generating more than 100 megawatts electricity from the month of March.
Official sources of the LJHEP project said that the project was generating around 50 megawatt electricity in the months of November and December while 40 to 60 megawatt electricity in the month of January, however after incessant rains and wet weather and water level increased in the river Jehlum the project is generating over 100 megawatts electricity from March and it is increasing day by day.
Executive Engineer LJHEP generation Er Javid Ahmad said that they are generating 98 to 100 megawatt, while some times 103 megawatt electricity from past month and it is increasing day by day. He said the water supply in river Jhelum and in other local streams is now good, due to which we are generating more electricity from the month of March.
LJHEP is Kashmir’s own hydro electric power project located in Bimyar area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and its capacity is 105 megawatt, it has three generation units with 35 megawatt each, and it’s electricity is used only in Jammu and Kashmir.
