Pakistani origin wives of formers militants, stage protest, seek travel documents to visit home

SRINAGAR: The Pakistani wives of Kashmiri former militants who have returned from Pakistan administered Kashmir under a rehabilitation policy on Tuesday held a protest demonstration here in Srinagar demanding the Government to provide them travel documents so they can go back to their homes in Pakistan.
Scores of the Pakistani wives along with their children’s assembled here in press enclave and holding placards and banners in their hands which reads “we want Justice” and ” we want travel documents for going back to Pakistan” and “if we are Pakistani then send us back to Pakistan”.
They protesting women and their children also marched from the press enclave towards the Ghanta Ghar at Lal Chowk.
The protesting wives said that the government cannot provide them citizenship rights. Then they should provide them travel documents. So, they can go back to their homes in Pakistan.
Bushra farooq, one of the protesting women said that we have returned back to kashmir along with our husbands after the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah has announced the rehabilitation policy for the surrendered militants in 2010.
“If the government does not accept us, then the Government should deport us to Pakistan. So, we can live with our families in Pakistan,” she said.
Bushra said that we did not want any new thing from the government. We are only demanding the government for providing the travel documents so that we can visit our homes in Pakistan.
“We are not able to meet our parents and relatives in Pakistan due to non-availability of the travel documents,” she said.
The protesting wives of the ex-militants appealed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha to look into the matter.
