12 illegally operating LPG outlets sealed in Pampore

PAMPORE: A day after a major scam involving three LPG agencies for undue distribution of LPG cylinders to beneficiaries under the PMUY-Ujjwala Yojana in Pulwama district, authorities in Pampore Pulwama district sealed around 12 gas outlets on Friday for operating illegally.
These gas outlets were operating illegally and working as selfstyled intermediaries in various areas of Pampore Tehsil.
A team under the supervision of Naib Tehsildar Pampore Mohammad Ameen, Naib Tehsildar Khrew Bashir Ahmad, TSO Pampore Prvaiz Ahmad and TSO Khrew.
Tehsil Supply Officer, Food, civil supplies and consumer affairs Pampore, Parveez Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that they carried out raids in various areas on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and Tehsildar Pampore.
“We carried out the raids at Pampore, Chandhara, Samboora , Ladhoo, Shaar Shaali and Wuyan areas and sealed around 12 gas outlets,” he said, adding that further action as warranted under law will be taken against them.
Tehsildar Pampore, Ishtiyaq Mohi-ud-Din, told Kashmir Reader that these gas outlets were operating without licence and were sealed on directions of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Dr Raghav Langer.
They don’t have permission from competent authorities to operate, they have become self appointed intermediaries and because of them consumers have to pay extra charges,” he said.
He added that licensed gas agencies are liable to deliver filled gas cylinders directly to the consumers at government approved rates.
“These intermediaries charge their commission to consumers due to which they have to pay extra 30 rupees per cylinder,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Dr Raghav Langer had already instructed Assistant Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs to register an FIR against three erring gas agencies after a scrutiny team found them involved in diverting subsidies of gas cylinders provided under PMUY Ujjwala Yojana scheme.
In a major development, huge discrepancies have been found by the administration in implementation of PMUY-Ujjwala Yojana in Pulwama. The preliminary scrutiny and verification for the same which was going on for the last few months in the district, concluded by District Magistrate, Dr Raghav Langer on Thursday ordering AD Food Civil Supplies Pulwama to lodge FIR against erring three LPG agencies.
The scam came to fore of the administration when last year in the month of April-May-June, 2020 entitlement for free cylinders for Ujjawala Yojana beneficiaries was announced by govt of India amidst lockdown situation along with extra ration entitlement under PMGKY, officials said.
