Rafiabad locals stage protest against Jal Shakti department

Baramula: The residents of Yarbugh village of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district staged a protest against the Jal Shakti (PHE) department for not providing them portable water supply for years in the area.
The people of the village hit the streets on Thursday and staged protests against the officials of the department who according to protests failed to provide them with a portable water supply. They said that they are being forced to use dirty water from nearby streams which is not good for the health of people and for their domestic animals.
Rising slogans the protesting people mostly women and children said that more than 700 mt pipeline was sanctioned for their village past year but the pipes were shifted to some other place and we were not informed.
They said that people staged several protests against the non availability of water in the past but people in large are still facing hardships. They also said that they are facing a shortage of electricity in the area.
People appealed to higher officials of the department and governor administration to solve their problem as soon as possible.
Yarbugh is a remote village of the upper belt of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
