Sopore residents stage protest against non-availability of drinking water

Baramulla: The residents of Bagh-e-Islam area of Sopore on Thursday staged a protest against the department of Jal Shakti who according to them failed to provide them regular tap water from past two and half months.
The protesting people including women and children hit the streets at Iqbal market Sopore and blocked the vehicular movement for some time, shouting slogans against the department . They alleged that they are facing acute shortage of drinking water, but the concerned officials have yet not resolved the problems from past two and half months.
They said it is the department who are forcing us to use the dirty water from nearby Nala or from open fields.
The officials of the Jal Sakti department said that, pipeline which connects Bagh-e-Islam area was damaged while constructing a drain by roads and buildings (R&B) department, and it will take some time as we will change some pipes. They assured that they will resolve the issue within two three days.
