Plantation drive held at Government Degree College Pampore

PAMPORE: As part of the Go Green Pampore, a mega plantation drive was held at Government Degree College Pampore on Thursday.
The plantation drive was organised by Government Degree College Pampore in collaboration with Wildlife conservation Fund, J&K and J&K Forest Department organised the Green Campus Plantation drive to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Dr. Salim Ali, a world renowned Ornithologist who is also known as Bird Man of India.
More than 200 saplings of different species including Deodar were planted in the premises of GDC Pampore.
The event was attended by Syed Farooq Ahmad Gillani (IFS) Chief Conservator of Forest, Kashmir who was the Chief Guest. He also Congratulated the Government Degree College for the launch of Green Campus Initiative and assured all possible support from J&K Forest Department.
Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz, Principal, Government Degree College, Pampore welcomed the guests and explained the vision of Govt. Degree College for the Conservation of Environment, Forests and Wildlife. She also shared her ideas for developing GDC Pampore as Green Campus.
Nadeem Qadri, Environmental Lawyer and Executive Director, Wildlife Conservation Fund, J&K briefed the guests about the vision of WCF for Conservation of Wildlife with special focus on Wetlands of Pampore. He also appreciated the support of GDC Pampore for developing J&K’s first Wetland Research Centre (WRC) which will be established at Government Degree College Pampore.
During the plantation drive, Chief Conservator of forest Kashmir Farooq Ahmad Gillani, Principal GDC Pampore Seema Naz, Nadeem Qadri Environmental Lawyer and Executive Director wildlife conservator fund and Ranger Officer Pampore 200 saplings of different species including Deodar were planted in the premises of GDC Pampore.
Forest department employees, a number of students and college staff members also took part in the drive.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Conservator Gillani said that the drive was started with the purpose to enhance green cover in the College campus and to create an eco-friendly environment.
“The plantation drive is an ambitious project for enhancing greenery in Pampore which would add to the aesthetic beauty of Pampore.”
The Event ended with a Birdwatching Tour to Mainbug Wetland Reserve Pampore, the guests appreciated the work of Wildlife Conservation Fund, J&K for the Conservation, preservation and Protection of Wetlands of Pampore.
