SRINAGAR: Veteran political leader and former Minister Dr. Mustafa Kamal passed away on Tuesday, drawing heartfelt tributes from leaders across the political spectrum who described him as a distinguished parliamentarian, accomplished administrator, and compassionate public figure who devoted his entire life to the service of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary expressed profound grief and sorrow, describing Dr. Kamal as a seasoned political leader and compassionate public figure, and a committed social worker whose invaluable contributions to public welfare and the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir will be remembered with deep respect and admiration.
Minister Satish Sharma described Dr. Kamal as a distinguished public figure who dedicated decades of his life to public service and democratic values, saying his demise marks the end of an important chapter in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that Dr. Kamal earned respect across political and social spheres for his steadfast commitment to public welfare and unwavering engagement with the people.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather described Dr. Mustafa Kamal as a towering political figure, a distinguished parliamentarian, an accomplished administrator, and a compassionate leader. He said that Dr. Kamal rendered exemplary services while heading several key departments and earned widespread respect for his integrity, humility, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to public welfare. Recalling his long association with the late leader, the Speaker said that Dr. Kamal was not only a valued colleague in the Cabinet but also a close associate with whom he shared a warm personal rapport.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq wrote on X: “Saddened to hear about the death of veteran politician Dr. Mustafa Kamal Sahib. May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannah. My deepest condolences to Dr. Farooq Abdullah Sahib, Omar Abdullah Sahib, and all members of the bereaved family. May Allah grant them sabr to bear this loss.”
National Conference MP Mian Altaf Ahmad described Dr. Kamal as a stalwart of Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape and a soft-spoken, deeply accessible, and grassroots-oriented leader. Former Union Minister and Congress leader Prof. Saifuddin Soz said Dr. Kamal was among the most distinguished political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir who will always be remembered as a dignified and respected politician. Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari also expressed deep sorrow, saying Dr. Kamal’s passing is a great loss to Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr. Mustafa Kamal was the brother of former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah and uncle of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Leaders prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
