Kupwara’s Tikker village protests over water shortage

BARAMULLA: The residents of Tikker area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district staged a protest on Friday against the Jal Sakti department (PHE) for not providing them portable drinking water in the area.
The residents alleged that from the past one month their village is facing acute shortage of drinking water, due to which people of the area are forced to use dirty water from nearby streams.
The protesters including women folk of the area blocked the Kupwara Sopore road for some to register their protest against the department who according to protesters failed to provide them water.
Shouting slogans against the department they said that their taps are completely dry from past month and neither the department provides them water tankers.
A senior officer of the department said that there is a dry spell from past several months due to which water level in all the sources is low, resulting our schemes could not lift the water to keep the supply running, he however said that they will provide them water through tankers till the water level will increase.
