Airtel to offer higher data speeds to postpaid users paying over Rs 499 a month

NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel on Monday said it will provide faster data speeds on priority basis to its Platinum customers under its “Priority 4G Network” experience initiative. The move could be seen aimed at growing the segment of the higher paying user base and to increase its average revenue per user.
The “Priority 4G Network”, which has been launched under the Airtel Thanks program, designates customers on Rs 499 and above plans as a ‘Platinum Customer’. Further, the Platinum customers will now be able to enjoy a customized Platinum UI on Airtel Thanks App.
Vodafone Idea had last year come up with the industry’s first tariff plan with faster speeds as a key differentiator for post-paid users. This was the first time in India when a telco has started promising up to 50% faster speeds to its customers under a high-value postpaid plan through a “priority network”.
Additionally, Airtel said that Platinum customers are entitled to preferential service at call centers and retail centers
All Airtel call centers and retail stores have dedicated staff to attend to Platinum customers on priority and cut down on waiting time, the telco said in a statement.
“It has been our endeavor to offer a differentiated service experience to our Platinum mobile customers as part of the Airtel Thanks program,” said Shashwat Sharma, CMO, Bharti Airtel.
“And that’s where we will deliver that ‘extra’ service experience to them, including faster speeds by giving them preference on our 4G network,” added Sharma.
The “Priority 4G Network” experience can be enjoyed by existing Airtel as well as non-Airtel customers by upgrading to Airtel postpaid plans starting at Rs 499. As part of the Platinum customer care, Airtel will deliver the “Priority 4G SIM’ to customers at their homes. —Agencies
