Rains trigger fresh landslides on Srinagar Jammu highway

SRINAGAR: Rains that lashed across the Kashmir valley on Tuesday triggered fresh landslides leading to suspension of traffic movement upon the Srinagar- Jammu highway, besides bringing down day temperature. An official from the traffic Control Unit Ramban told the Kashmir Reader due rains landslide occurred at Higni and Monkey mode on Tuesday evening and traffic movement was immediately suspended.

“The men and machinery are doing the work to clear the highway, he said, adding that the traffic plan for Wednesday has not been decided yet, once the landslides will be cleared stranded vehicles will be allowed to move to their destinations. Meanwhile Meteorological Centre Srinagar official said that weather is expected to improve from Wednesday afternoon though there being cloud cover.

Deputy Director of Metrological Centre told Kashmir Reader during the next two days there is a chance of the light rain in plains as well as snow in hilly areas across the Kashmir valley. The minimum night temperature in Kashmir valley was recorded at Gulmarg where it was recorded at 1 degree Celsius, and in Srinagar the day temperature touched 11.8 degree Celsius and night temperature was 9.6 degree Celsius.
