Er Rasheed ‘humiliated’, detained in Handwara

Srinagar:  Awami Itehaad Party (AIP) on Thursday said that police used force to foil a peaceful sit-in by its president, Engineer Abdul Rasheed Sheikh outside the SP office Handwara.

MLA Langate as per a statement issued here said that he was trying to carry out a protest to seek release of two innocent youth identified as Irshad Ahmad Parra, resident of Badrah and Abdul Rasheed, resident of Ganapora Langate.

Protesters led by Er Rasheed gathered outside SP office Handwara and started anti-PSA and anti-Police slogans and were seeking immediate and unconditional release of the two youth.

The spokesman however said that SP Handwara came out of his office along with a contingent of police and used force to disperse the mob resulting in injuries to a number of protesters.

“Er Rasheed was thrashed, abused, humiliated and dragged to the police station Handwara,” the statement said.

Party spokesman Adv Maajid Banday while condemning the incident, accused police and district administration of enforcing ‘a jungle raj’ in entire Kashmir including Handwara and adjoining areas.
