Afzal was hanged to satisfy collective consciousness of Indians: Malik

Srinagar: Paying tributes to Muhammad Afzal Guru on his anniversary, Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik Thursday said that gallows, life imprisonments, curfews, arrests, intimidations and threats will never succeed in breaking the will of Kashmiris and their urge for seeking freedom.

Terming the martyrdom of Muhammad Afzal Guru as ‘glaring example of Indian judicial bias’ against Kashmiris, Malik as per a statement issued here said that “Afzal was hanged by Indian judicial system on pretext of satisfying the collective consciousness of Indians which itself, speaks volumes about the sham judgment.”

“Likewise great Kashmiri ideologue martyr Muhammad Maqbool Butt was also hanged without being given a fair trial by Indian state,” Malik said.

He said that Indian state not only illegally hanged martyrs Maqbool and Afzal in Tihar jail but also denied them a proper burial by burying then inside the jail premises.

“The height of shamelessness of this biggest democracy is that it even disallowed these martyrs one last chance of meeting their loved ones,” Malik added.

He said that hangings, arrests, life imprisonments, harassments, police and army intimidations and other oppressive measures cannot suppress the voices of Kashmiris for long and the day is not far when the dawn of freedom will rise on the horizons of Jammu Kashmir.

“Kashmiris will continue their struggle till the desired goal is not achieved and till India returns the mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guroo,” Malik asserted.

Calling Afzal Guru as ‘a brave son of soil’ who became a victim of Indian enmity towards Kashmiris and was illegally sent to gallows, Malik said “Afzal followed father of Kashmiri Nation Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and kissed gallows without surrendering before the tyrants. Nation of Kashmir is indebted to him for his resolve and determination.”

“The sacrifices of Muhammad Afzal Guru, the oppressive measures, and persecution he and his family faced at the hands of India is part of our resistance history. Same tyranny and repression was faced by Maqbool Bhat and his family 34 years ago,” he said, adding that the Indian rulers who have done this injustice to Kashmiris will have to answer for their crimes according to the law of retribution.

JKLF chairman said that, “people of Jammu Kashmir will not forget the sacrifices of these martyrs neither will we ever forget the tyrant and oppressive attitude of India.”

He said that “Kashmiris will keep resisting the illegal occupation and oppression till the desired goal is achieved and no stone will be left unturned in this endeavor.”

Meanwhile, JKLF strongly condemned the nocturnal raids on the residence various JKLF leaders Advocate Bashir Ahmad Butt, Javaid Ahmad Zarger, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri and Mushtaq Ahmad Korag.

“Police last night raided JKLF leader’s houses and intimidated their families which is highly regrettable,” the spokesman said, adding that police also arrested JKLF district president Kupwara Rafiq Ahmad War and lodged him at some unknown police station.
