Srinagar: Police today claimed to have arrested a 22-year-old man after he enacted a ‘drama’ of hair chopping at his home in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Police said that they got information that a braid chopping incident has taken place in Dooru, Anantnag.
“Immediately, police reached the spot and found that some hair of Bilal Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Nabi Mir having has been cut. The man also reported that his finger was hurt when he tried to get hold of the hair chopper,” police said.
Police said that during the investigation, the man was found to have allegiance to a political party and tried to create a law and order problem in the area.
“He managed to muster support by using megaphone as well. The preliminary investigation itself reveals that it was a hoax attempted to create a law and order situation,” police added.
Police also said that he had lost his fingers outside the country at his workplace. Pertinently, the police have taken cognizance and registered a case in this regard.
Meanwhile, unknown persons, today cut the braid of a 35-year-old woman in Nowpora locality of Bandipora district before robbing her of gold earrings.
According to the locals, the unknown person attacked the woman (name withheld) near the main gate of her house, making her unconscious chopping her hair before leaving.
“She was going to unlock the main gate of the house around 6:30 am when she was attacked by an unknown person. After chopping her hair, the person fled. He also stole her golden earring,” a local said.
In Srinagar, a fresh braid chopping incident was reported from Ahmad Nagar locality of the city.
Sources said that braid of a woman was cut in Shah Mohala in Ahmad Nagar Srinagar.
As the news of the incident spread, scores of people including elder citizens, youth and children staged a protest march raising slogans against the administration for failing to arrest the involved persons which were intercepted by the government forces already deployed there, triggering clashes.
Hair of over 100 women and young girls has been mysteriously chopped off across the Valley during past month.
The police have formed Special Investigation Teams to probe the incidents. However, so far the police and the authorities have been clueless.
The police have announced a reward of Rs six lakh for credible information leading to arrest of any person behind braid chopping incidents. So far, no arrests have been made.
At several places, vigilante mobs have thrashed innocents mistaking them for braid choppers.
