Abu Ismail Amarnath Yatra attack mastermind: IGP

IGP Kashmir Muneer Ahmad Khan Sunday while addressing  a press conference said that the Amarnath attackers have been identified.

He said that the attack was carried out by three Pakistani militants along with a local LeT militant.

While confirming to  media that Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was involved in the attack and accused have been identified he said that the mastermind of the attack was Pakistani national and LeT militant Abu Ismail.

IGP said “happy to tell you that 3 accused persons have been arrested & they have completely revealed everything.”

Khan confirmed that Ismail, a Pakistani militant of Lashkar along with two other Pakistani militants and a local Kashmiri Lashkar militant carried out attack.

He further added that the attack was initially planned for July 9th,but that day there was no movement of CRPF or yatri vehicle in isolation.

“Two Lashkar militants were eliminated few days ago,their involvement in this particular case, is still being investigated”, IGP added.

The earlier investigation confirmed that the attack was carried out by LeT to seek revenge for the encounter of Bashir Lashkari, the commander of the LeTin the Valley.

Pertinently, eight Amarnath pilgrims were killed in Boetengoo Anantnag when the vehicle carrying them was attacked by unidentified gun men on 10 July 2017.
