Clashes erupted in Pulwama town of south Kashmir after police used tear gas shells to disperse the protesting students on Monday.

As per the reports, students were protesting outside the police station in Pulwama town demanding release of their fellow students who were arrested during past week’s clashes.

The protesting students also waived flags bearing quotes like, “Behead those who insult Islam”.  

According to the witness, police fired tear gas shells to break up the demonstration of the students which triggered clashes.

Soon after, most of the business establishments were seen lowering their shutters.

Earlier, the students of Mehjoor Memorial Higher Secondary school and Degree College Pulwama staged the protest to demand the release of their colleagues detained during last week’s clashes.

According to the sources, students of MMHSS staged a protest inside the institution and warned the administration that they would boycott the classes till the release of their colleagues.

Later, students marched towards Degree College Pulwama and then jointly marched into Pulwama Chowk and staged a protest outside the police station, sources said.
