SRINAGAR: In a significant development, the Court of the Learned Special Judge, CBI Cases, Srinagar, Mr. Adnan Syed, has granted bail to Vinay Kumar, a Regional Provident Fund Commissioner who was apprehended by the CBI on March 31, 2026.
Appearing for the accused, Advocate Sajjad Ahmed Mir delivered a compelling and forceful defence, dismantling the prosecution’s case with precision and clarity. He categorically argued that the allegations levelled against the accused are false, unfounded, and lacking legal substance. Emphasising the settled principles of criminal jurisprudence, he reiterated before the court that “bail is the rule and jail is the exception”, a doctrine consistently upheld by constitutional courts across the country.
In a well-crafted and legally robust presentation, the learned counsel placed reliance upon a series of landmark judgments of the Supreme Court of India, along with recent and authoritative pronouncements of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, effectively exposing the weaknesses in the prosecution’s narrative.
Legal observers noted that the counsel’s performance exemplified the highest standards of the legal profession, with his persuasive submissions playing a decisive role in securing relief for the accused.
Consequently, the court, after meticulous examination, vide its order dated April 8, 2026, directed the release of the accused from Central Jail, Srinagar, upon furnishing a bail bond of ₹1,00,000 (Rupees One Lakh only) along with two sureties of the like amount.
