On this Teachers’ Day, I wish to pay tribute to a highly respected former government teacher from Tullamulla, Ganderbal, Mr Farooq Ahmad Wagay. Though he never taught me directly, my friends and locals always speak of him with deep admiration.
His teaching journey began on 5th May 1989 with his first posting at Zanskar. Later, he served the majority of his career in his native village, Tullamulla, Ganderbal, dedicating 11 long years here. After decades of selfless service, he retired on 31st March 2024.
What makes him truly remarkable is his unmatched dedication; he never missed delivering a lecture, even if only a single student was present. For the people of Tullamulla, he remains a guiding star, inspiring generations not only through knowledge but also by instilling values of honesty, kindness, and commitment.
His sincerity extended beyond the classroom into his personal life. A testimony to his values is seen in his family, all three of his daughters qualified for NEET, a shining example of how sincerity, discipline, and hard work bear fruit.
Indeed, this reminds us of the timeless saying: “As you sow, so shall you reap.” When our intentions are pure, Allah blesses us with the most positive outcomes. Happy Teachers’ Day 2025!
