Schools, which are often revered like mosques and temples, fulfill their crucial role of educating children effectively. However, they tend to overlook a vital issue that we will inevitably face in the future: the lack of thoughtfulness.
In today’s educational landscape, schools prioritize teaching knowledge rather than cultivating thoughtfulness. For instance, consider a young boy attending kindergarten. He may be studying numerous subjects like English, Science, Maths, and Computer Science, but when asked about the concept of humanity, he responds with confusion, saying, “Humanity? What is that? I’ve never heard of it before!”
Does this imply that we are raising generations of knowledgeable giants who lack the ability to make wise decisions independently? Perhaps it does, or perhaps it doesn’t. The outcome depends on the approach adopted by schools. By embracing a shift in their ideology and focusing on instilling thoughtfulness, we can shape future generations into wise individuals rather than mere repositories of knowledge.
But how can a change in the school administration’s ideology benefit society? How can it revolutionize students’ behavior? The answer lies in understanding the impact on individuals.
Parents enroll their children in the best schools with the hope that they will become successful engineers, doctors, scientists, and other accomplished professionals. Many parents also emphasize the importance of becoming good human beings before pursuing excellence in their chosen fields. Yet, as these children grow up, they often display rude behavior, disrespecting their own parents, and, in extreme cases, even resorting to expelling them from their homes.
Upon examining these cases, it becomes evident that their behavior and personalities were not adequately nurtured. It is within schools that personalities are molded, and the present-day education system fails to prioritize these essential aspects that foster prosperity and harmony in families and society. Therefore, a change in curriculum becomes imperative.
Even a slight modification to the education system can lead to positive change, albeit not immediately. Progress may occur gradually, but it will ultimately result in a better society, characterized by reduced instances of theft, smuggling, and violence. It will be a society where disagreements are met with open minds and compassionate hearts, fostering intellectual growth and minimizing ignorance.
This transformed society will consist of individuals who are not merely balloons filled with the air of knowledge, fragile and unable to withstand even the slightest pressure. Instead, they will be intellectuals capable of confronting ultimate challenges and enduring harsh conditions.
Within this society, people will unite and engage in respectful discussions. We have taken a few steps back from prosperity, but with collective effort, we can take several steps forward to restore it. Let every individual in the world aspire to be someone who first embodies goodness, then wisdom, and finally contributes to the nurturing and preservation of society, rather than being someone who destroys it.
