SRINAGAR: The Jammu & Kashmir Judicial Academy conducted Day-33 of its training sessions for Civil Judges and Judicial Officers in Srinagar. Under the guidance of Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Rajnesh Oswal, the program aimed to enhance judicial skills and knowledge. The sessions included a Continuing Judicial Education Programme for Batch-2020 officers and induction training for Trainee Civil Judges (Batch-2026).
Justice Rajesh Bindal, former Supreme Court Judge, led the morning sessions on “Technology in the Administration of Justice” and “Artificial Intelligence for Judges.” He emphasized the importance of technology in creating an efficient, transparent, and accessible justice system. Demonstrations covered digital platforms such as the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG), electronic Supreme Court Reports (eSCR), and the Bhashini app, illustrating their use in legal research and case management. Justice Bindal explained AI’s applications in legal research, judgment drafting, summarization, and transcription, stressing that AI is a tool to assist, not replace, judicial judgment. He urged officers to adopt technology responsibly and ethically, maintaining the primacy of judicial independence.
In the afternoon, Justice Rahul Bharti addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning, legal research, and judicial responsibility. He shared insights from his career, highlighting the need for clarity, analytical reasoning, and precision in judgment writing. Justice Bharti encouraged officers to uphold professionalism, diligence, humility, and accountability.
Director Naseer Ahmad Dar underscored the significance of the program in strengthening judicial competence through discussions on technology, AI, and judgment writing. The sessions were highly interactive, with officers actively engaging with resource persons on practical issues related to judicial administration and decision-making. The program aimed to equip judicial officers with contemporary skills vital for effective judicial functioning.
