‘Militant associate arrested, explosives recovered’
Srinagar: In a major counter-terror operation, police in Awantipora, in coordination with security forces, busted a militant hideout linked to the proscribed outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and arrested an associate involved in supporting terrorists.
Based on credible intelligence about terrorist presence in Naner Midoora, police, along with 42 RR and 180 BN CRPF, launched a cordon and search operation in the area. During the operation, they apprehended Nazir Ahmed Ganai, son of Abdul Aziz Ganai, a resident of Ganai Mohalla Nanar, who is affiliated with JeM, a police spokesperson said in a statement.
During sustained interrogation and disclosure, a militant hideout located in the orchards belonging to the suspect was uncovered and subsequently destroyed on-site in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, following proper procedures. From the hideout, security forces recovered two hand grenades, one detonator, and explosive-like materials, which were seized for further analysis.
The arrested militant associate is actively involved in providing logistic support and facilitating the transportation of arms and ammunition to JeM militants operating in Tral and Awantipora. A case has been registered (FIR No. 257/2025) at Police Station Awantipora under relevant sections, and further investigation is ongoing.
