SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association on Saturday said that the mortal remains of Kashmiri MBBS student, Late Sabha Rasool, who tragically passed away in Iran, were brought home to the Valley today and laid to rest at her ancestral residence in Safakadal with full religious and cultural traditions.
After completing all necessary formalities in Iran and Delhi, her body was transported to Srinagar and was laid to rest at her ancestral home in Safakadal with full religious and cultural traditions.
National Convenor of Association Nasir Khuehami in a statement issued here said, The Namaz-e-Janazah was offered at Seki Daffer Park, following which she was buried with dignity amid prayers and grief.”
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Sogami for ensuring ambulance transportation and other necessary facilities at Srinagar Airport, which enabled her mortal remains to reach her native place with respect and dignity.
The Association also expressed deep concern over the extraordinary hardships faced by the bereaved family, who were compelled to bear nearly ten times the normal airfare for repatriation. Despite being devastated by her untimely demise, the family had to shoulder the entire financial and logistical burden, with only limited assistance from the Indian Embassy in Iran.
Khuehami urged External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to personally intervene and reimburse the family for the extraordinary costs incurred. It further appealed for the establishment of a formal, compassionate mechanism under the Ministry of External Affairs to assist families of Indian students and citizens who lose their lives abroad. Such an intervention, it said, would not only bring relief to Sabha’s grieving family but also reaffirm the Government’s commitment to standing firmly with its citizens during their most difficult times.
The Association conveyed its deepest condolences to the family of Late Sabha Rasool, describing her untimely demise as an irreparable loss for her loved ones and the community. “Her passing has left a deep void that cannot be filled. In this moment of unbearable grief, our thoughts and prayers are with her family. We pray to Almighty Allah to grant her the highest place in Jannah and give strength and patience to her family to bear this tragic loss,” the statement read.
