Her legacy of empathy, integrity and dedication redefined what true leadership means
Change is the only constant in life. Some changes weigh heavily on the heart, especially when they involve saying goodbye to someone who has been more than just a colleague or mentor—someone who has been a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and the heartbeat of our department.
Prof Shabila Miraj, who has been transferred to Government Degree College Bemina, Srinagar, where she will head the Department of Commerce, leaves us with a whirlwind of emotions. She led our department here at Government Degree College Charar-e-Sharief not just with competence but with compassion. Her leadership was never about authority. In a world that often values numbers over people, she reminded us every day that empathy, integrity, and dedication are what truly build an institution.
From the very first day I joined Government Degree College Charar-e-Sharief, she encouraged me, even when I was initially hesitant due to the long distance. Her approach with staff and students always remained calm, composed, and rooted in fairness. The door to her office was never really closed; it was a place where ideas were encouraged, concerns were heard, and solutions were born.
You have led this department with exceptional dedication, wisdom, and strength for the past four years. Your leadership not only shaped the academic culture of our department but also inspired countless students and colleagues alike. Your presence brought structure, compassion, and a sense of unity that made the department feel more like a family.
Although we had the privilege of working with you for only seven months, those months were filled with learning, respect, and admiration. Your ability to lead with grace and clarity, to guide with patience, and to support with genuine care has left a lasting impression on each one of us. Your door was always open, your words always encouraging, and your decisions always fair.
Madam, your transfer to another college is undoubtedly a great gain for them, but it is a moment of heartfelt loss for us. It is difficult to put into words how much we will miss your presence, your guidance, and the sense of calm you brought even during the most challenging times.
Your contributions will be remembered with immense respect, and the positive impact you’ve had on this department will continue to echo in the days to come. The legacy of your leadership will stay with us as a standard to strive for and as a memory to cherish. We, the entire faculty of the Department of Commerce and Management Studies, will miss you dearly.
One of the most admirable qualities of our Head was the personal touch with which she handled everything. She remembered not just our teaching schedules but our family milestones, and even the days we needed a kind word. Under her guidance, we didn’t just grow as professionals; we grew as people.
Prof Shabila Madam was more than a Head of Department. Her words had a way of bringing clarity in confusion, hope in despair, and encouragement when the going got tough. In addition to academics, Prof Shabila Madam organised many programmes during her tenure to uplift the students and faculty. Students and young minds were touched by her guidance. She took genuine interest in their progress, believing in their potential even when they doubted it themselves.
As Prof Shabila Madam prepares to begin a new chapter at Government Degree College Bemina, we can’t help but feel a profound sense of loss. The corridors will feel quieter without her presence, the department a little less complete. Yet, we take solace in knowing that another institution will now benefit from the brilliance, kindness, and grace that we were so fortunate to experience.
We offer our heartfelt gratitude for everything Shabila Madam has given us—her time, effort, understanding, and above all, her heart. You leave behind not just a legacy but an indelible mark on each of us. We will strive to uphold the values you instilled, to build on the foundation you laid, and to continue the work you began with the same passion you taught us to have.
As you move forward, may success accompany your every step, and may you find as much love and respect in your new workplace. This is not goodbye, only a heartfelt “until we meet again”.
