Going Through Hard Times

Must read

If you are going through hell, keep going: Winston Churchill

Life is not as simple as it seems; it is a rollercoaster of ups and downs, happiness and pain. At times, it thrills us with surprises we never imagined. At other times, it hits us out of nowhere and sets us back. But life goes on, and it has to go on. This can be the best or the worst thing about it. Everything passes, and it shall pass. Periods of joy and sorrow may come and go, hitting us differently based on how we process and react to them. We can either be the victim of the situation or the victor. All the power rests in our hands alone.

We never know our own strength unless being strong is our only option. We all have a hero within us, but it is revealed only in hard times. Hard times refine and redefine us. Diamonds are formed under pressure. Gold has to go through fire to become pure. A stone must bear the pain of the hammer and chisel to achieve beauty. Hardships turn cocoons into butterflies. Hard times come to remove the distractions that cloud our path. They teach us lessons we could never learn in comfort. One cannot grow up on easy streets. The finest swords are forged in the hottest flames.

Everyone has to struggle. Every successful person has their own story of hardships. Surviving hard times can teach us important things about ourselves and the world around us. It deepens our altruism and empathy, and, in time, enables us to evolve and grow as human beings. Going through hard times makes us stronger and more successful, both physically and mentally. It canvases the masterpiece of who we are and prepares us for something far greater.

Sometimes, we feel so helpless, desperately seeking relief of any kind, but every expected source of respite vanishes in the blink of an eye. Some of our friends, near and dear ones, disappear, leaving us in isolation. This isolation, however, is not a punishment but a blessing. It removes all distractions, leaving us alone to work on ourselves and craft the best version of ourselves.

Life is shaped by the people who surround us and the sort of relationships we have with them. People come and go, but some leave a remarkable influence on our lives. Some become an irreplaceable part of our journey, while others simply play their part and disappear. Hard times reveal the true colours of everyone. They unmask people, showing us three types: first, those who stay during hard times; second, those who disappear in hard times; and third, those who put us in hard times. Each has a lesson to teach. The first is a true friend, the second is there for their vested interests, and the third, though appearing to be a rival initially, maybe the one placed in our life to lift us up.

Hardships often prepare an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny. If you are going through hard times, don’t fear the pain. Don’t shy away from the struggle. Embrace it. Go through it fully, completely, without finding excuses. Push through until you reach the other end. You will be a different person when you get there. The battle you face today forges the victories of tomorrow. So believe in yourself. Never give up. Never back down.
