SRINAGAR: The High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS), Gulmarg, celebrated its Platinum Jubilee, commemorating 75 years of unparalleled service in training and operational excellence in high-altitude warfare, snowbound terrain, and glaciated regions. Established in 1948 as the Army Ski Training School, HAWS has transformed into a globally renowned institution, imparting specialized combat skills to the Indian Army, Central Paramilitary Forces, and members of allied foreign nations.
The grand event reflected on HAWS’ rich legacy of contributions to national defence and adventure sports, including mountaineering and skiing. HAWS’ historical role in pivotal military operations such as Operation Meghdoot (1984) and Operation Vijay (1999) was honored, paying tribute to the “Mountain Warriors” whose valor and expertise have upheld India’s sovereignty and national interests.
Over the years, HAWS has become synonymous with excellence in extreme conditions, earning accolades in military history and adventure sports.
