Er Ehtisham criticises Reservation Policy amid govt’s move to fill 575 lecturer posts in J&K

SRINAGAR: “The decision to fill 575 lecturer posts in the School Education Department by the government is a much-needed step in addressing the escalating unemployment crisis in Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative brings hope to thousands of aspirants awaiting such opportunities. However, the move has been overshadowed by the implementation of the new and unjust reservation policy, a policy that has become a symbol of broken promises and systemic inequity,” said Er Ehtisham Khan, a prominent social and student rights activist.
Speaking on the matter, Er Khan expressed his concerns, saying, “While I wholeheartedly welcome the government’s efforts to address unemployment, I cannot overlook the disheartening fact that these appointments are being governed by the new reservation policy—a policy that the ruling party had pledged to review during their election campaign. This is a betrayal of trust, and it undermines the very principles of fairness and inclusivity.”
The new reservation policy has long been a contentious issue, criticized for its disproportionate impact on open merit candidates and its failure to balance representation across all communities. Despite the loud assurances made in election manifestos, the ruling party’s decision to enforce this policy in recent appointments raises serious questions about their commitment to the promises made to the people, Er Ehtisham said.
Er Khan added, “It pains me to see that the aspirations of our youth, who believed in the promises of a better tomorrow, are being crushed by the very system meant to uplift them. Policies like this distort the spirit of equitable representation and deepen the divide instead of fostering inclusivity.”
He has called upon the Chief Minister to take immediate cognizance of the issue and revisit this unjust policy without further delay. He urged the ruling party to honor their commitments and initiate a review of the J&K Reservation Act, ensuring it reflects the principles of fairness and meritocracy. Er Khan also appealed to legislators across party lines to rise above political affiliations and support this critical demand.
