SRINAGAR: The highly anticipated ‘9th JK UT Pencak Silat Championship 2024’ officially kicked off on Saturday at the historic Polo Ground in Srinagar. The event saw an inspiring inauguration ceremony, graced by Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, who attended as the Chief Guest.
The Secretary Sports council also took SVEEP pledge along with thousands of Pencak Silat athletes urging voters to turn out in large numbers on 25th September 2024 and highlighted the role of voting in strengthening democracy.
She emphasized the importance of active voter engagement in safeguarding democratic values.
The event was also attended by Mohd Iqbal, Manager of Gindun Stadium, and Hilal Ahmad, Manager of Polo Ground Srinagar, both serving as Guests of Honour. Their presence highlighted the growing prominence of martial arts and sports activities in the region.
In her address, Gul emphasized the importance of sports in empowering youth and fostering unity. She applauded the efforts of all participants and extended her best wishes for a successful championship.
The championship will see talented athletes from across Jammu and Kashmir compete over the next three days, with various events showcasing the dynamic and skillful martial art of Pencak Silat. The competition will culminate in a grand closing ceremony on September 23, 2024.
This event serves as a significant milestone in promoting martial arts and strengthening the sports culture in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The said mega championship is organised by Pencak Silat Association of J&K and sponsored by J&K Sports Council.
