SRINAGAR The executive body of the Press Club of Kashmir has announced that the journalist fraternity in the Kashmir Valley will soon have a dedicated press club under the name “Press Club of Kashmir” in Srinagar.
According to a statement, the executive body held a meeting on Monday with prominent journalists from the valley to discuss the formation of the press club. During the meeting, key members of the executive body were nominated, including M. Saleem Pandit of The Times of India as the Patron/Interim President, Zulfikar Majid of Deccan Herald as General Secretary, and Farzana Mumtaz of News Kashmir as Treasurer.
Following the meeting, the executive members engaged in discussions with functionaries of the Union Territory (UT) Administration to seek their support in the swift establishment of the press club. The UT Administration officials assured the executive body of their full cooperation and assistance, emphasizing their commitment to facilitating the opening of the Press Club of Kashmir in Srinagar as soon as possible.
The establishment of the Press Club of Kashmir is expected to provide a much-needed platform for journalists in the region, fostering a collaborative environment and enhancing the professional standards of journalism in the valley, the statement said, adding that the executive body and the UT Administration are working together to ensure that the press club becomes operational in the shortest possible time.
