Fire erupts in Kangan forest, swift response by FPF averts disaster

GANDERBAL: A forest fire broke out in the Kullan Gund forest of the Sindh Forest Range in Kangan, central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, on Sunday evening. The fire posed a significant threat to the area, but swift action by the Forest Protection Force (FPF) and the Forest Department Ganderbal successfully contained the blaze.
Assistant Director of the Forest Protection Force Ganderbal, Mohammad Yousuf Magray, informed Kashmir Reader that after hectic efforts by the FPF party from the Reporting Centre Hayan and Territorial Forest officials, the fire was successfully extinguished. The fire, which spread over approximately 10 to 15 hectares, was located in compartment 44 of the Sindh Range Block Kullun and was battled from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm.
Magray highlighted the critical nature of the situation due to the challenging terrain where the fire occurred. However, the coordinated efforts of the FPF and other allied forces played a crucial role in extinguishing the blaze. Currently, a mopping exercise is underway to prevent any potential re-ignition of ground fires in the affected forest range.
The Forest Protection Force Department, along with its allied forces, continues to monitor the area closely to ensure the situation remains under control. Residents have been advised to follow safety guidelines issued by the Department to prevent future incidents.
The quick and effective response by the Forest Protection Force and Forest Department has been instrumental in averting what could have been a disastrous event for the region.
