PAMPORE: In a tragic incident, a 40-year-old woman lost her life, and eight others, including three children, sustained injuries in a road accident on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway near Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday evening.
The deceased, identified as Sumi Jan, wife of Mudasir Ahmad Ganie and a resident of Panzgam Awantipora, tragically succumbed to her injuries, as per officials cited by Kashmir Reader.
Reports indicate that a Fortuner vehicle with registration number JK02BF-8811, traveling from Jammu, collided with a woman pedestrian and another vehicle while approaching the Charsoo area of Awantipora. This collision resulted in multiple injuries to several individuals, including the unfortunate loss of Sumi Jan’s life.
Following the accident, a prompt response from the police team from the Awantipora police station, led by SDPO Awantipora SP Mumtaz Ali Bhatti and SHO Awantipora Zahoor Ahmad, along with local residents, facilitated the swift evacuation of the injured to PHC Awantipora. Despite efforts, Sumi Jan was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical facility. The remaining injured were subsequently transferred to hospitals in Srinagar for further medical attention.
Dr Imran Shafi, Medical Officer at PHC Awantipora, confirmed the tragic outcome, stating that six injured individuals were brought to the facility, with Sumi Jan succumbing to her injuries. Five others, including Lali Jan, Abdul Hamid Teli, Zubaida, Aalima Jan, and Noor Huda Miyan, were referred to SMHS Hospital for advanced treatment, while three others were sent to the Bone and Joint Hospital from the Toll Plaza Awantipora.
Police officials verified the incident, confirming the fatality and injuries resulting from the road accident. The driver of the vehicle involved has been apprehended, and the vehicle itself has been impounded. A case has been registered at the Awantipora police station in connection with the incident.
The body of the deceased has been handed over to her family after the necessary medical formalities were completed.
