Police Debunk Fake Baramulla Terror Attack Rumours, File FIR Against Misinformation

Must read

Srinagar; Baramulla Police on Sunday dismissed as “false and fabricated” social media claims that terrorists had attacked a police station in the town, opened fire on government offices, and that the Chief Minister had proposed cancelling the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

In a handout, the police said that no such incident has taken place in Baramulla and termed the reports completely baseless and misleading.

Officials said the deliberate spread of such content appears to be a calculated attempt to create fear, spread panic, and undermine public confidence during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

An FIR has been registered and investigation is underway to identify those responsible for creating and circulating the malicious disinformation. Police said strict legal action will be taken against all involved, including individuals who knowingly share or forward such content.

Baramulla Police advised the public not to forward unverified content on social media, warning that circulation of fake news creates panic, disrupts public order, and invites penal action.

The public has been urged to remain calm and rely only on information from official government and police channels, reads the statement.(
