YSS promotes sports culture, drug-free society: Director

SRINAGAR: The Department of Youth Services and Sports in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is actively promoting sports and other activities among students and youth across all 20 districts throughout the year. Director Subash C Chhibber highlighted the crucial role of Zonal and District level offices in engaging students in various games and activities, aiming to foster a sports culture, a drug-free society, and a healthy nation.
In Zone Zaldagar, a range of activities including Volleyball, Tug of War, and recreational games were organized, drawing a large number of students from the zone. The event commenced with an inauguration by Principal MPML HSS Nikhat Mir, along with ZPEO Zaldagar Javed Ahmad Malik and Department officials, where an anti-drug pledge was administered before the start of the event. Winners were later awarded by the ZPEO.
Zone Rainawari hosted Chess and Carrom Competitions at Boys High School Rainawari, witnessing enthusiastic participation from over 50 students. The event was inaugurated by ZPEO Rainawari Rifat Shafi, who encouraged students to steer clear of drugs and embrace sports as part of their lives.
In an effort to promote cultural and spiritual understanding among youth, a Seerat Conference for U-14 & U-17 boys & girls was organized in Mattan Zone of district Anantnag. The event, held at Middle School Pranbhawan, saw participation from budding talents and featured speeches highlighting the biography of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by Basharat Ahmad Wani (REM) and a keynote address by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Anantnag.
Additionally, Tug of War and Carrom competitions were organized for AAG Boys and Girls in the District, inaugurated by ZPEO Manzoor Ahmad Ganie, emphasizing the values of sportsmanship and discipline.
Youth Services and Sports Office Ganderbal organized Intramural Sports Activities across the District, with students from different sports zones participating in various events. Sheikh Shafqat Iqbal, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Ganderbal, commended the participation, highlighting the initiative’s aim to promote physical activity, teamwork, and healthy competition among youth in the district.
