Elevating J&K Youth Talent: JK SDM contest in full swing across 18 skill trades with 250 participants

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir, J&K is known for its amazing artistic and cooking skills, now these skills are getting recognized in the Union Territory (UT) through India-Skills competitions. J&K youth is also actively participating in web design, graphic design, software solutions for business, and mobile robotics.
This competition, called India Skills 2023-2024, is happening to make India famous for its skills all around the world. The Jammu and Kashmir Skill Development Mission is leading this effort. In simple terms, the competition is a way for talented people to show off their skills, in beauty therapy, Cooking, Graphic designing Fashion Technology, and technical skills like CNC Turning, Cyber Security. The platform provides youth to showcase their expertise and excellence in diversified skill sets nationally and internationally.
The ongoing state-level competitions 2023-24, a collaborative effort between JKSDM, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) under the Government of India, and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), are being conducted with the active support of the Skill Development Department in Jammu and Kashmir.
The competitions encompass a wide array of job roles, with the State Level Competition for Refrigeration & Air Conditioning and Beauty Therapy Skill Sets recently taking place on March 12, 2024, at CIIIT, Government Polytechnic Jammu – academic partners to the J&K Skill Development Mission.
Participants from across the UT of J&K engaged in the State Level Competition, a stepping stone to pre-National competitions, National level competitions, and ultimately the World Skills Competitions set to be held in Lyon, France later this year.
Mission Director, J&K Skill Development Mission, Leena Padha said, “JKSDM remains committed to organizing such initiatives, providing opportunities for the youth of J&K. State Level Competitions in 18 skill sets are being conducted at various venues across the UT, where more than 250 candidates will compete to represent J&K in Pre-National and National Level Competitions.”
